1914-07-03 (160lbs) Jack Dillon w pts 10 Sailor Ed Petroskey, Association Park, Kansas City, Missouri, USA. The Kansas City Star gave this one at 160lbs, carrying a heavy forfeit if not adhered to, thus putting Dillon’s title claim at risk. Winning virtually every round to take an easy points verdict, Dillon found Petroskey a tough man to finish off despite having him down with a left uppercut in the seventh. Up until then Petroskey had been successful in blocking many of Dillon’s best efforts, but from thereon he took punch after punch as the latter let loose and showed a remarkable ability in shipping punishment. On 21 July, Dillon (168) took a ten-round press decision over the 157lbs George KO Brown at the Ballpark, Terre Haute, Indiana. The Indianapolis News reported it to be a billed middleweight title fight, despite Dillon being eight pounds over the weight class.
