1914-11-16 Jimmy Wilde w pts 15 Joe Symonds, The Ring, Southwark, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. With the NSC not recognising Symonds' championship claims he was matched by the promoters of the Blackfriars' Ring against the sensational Jimmy Wilde for their version of the title, while the NSC saw it as a final eliminator, with the winner to meet Tancy Lee. Also up for grabs were Symonds’ European and world title claims. An amazing man, who almost always conceded weight to his opponents, Wilde was an unorthodox, bobbing and weaving, attacking fighter with tremendous power. He was also very clever defensively. Weighing in at 1pm, Symonds scaled 111½lbs, with Wilde conservatively thought to be in the region of 96lbs, and while the little man was seen to win virtually every round he was unable to drop his rival who received several cautions for going low.
