1914-12-26 (160lbs) Jeff Smith w pts 20 Mick King, Baker’s Stadium, Sydney, Australia. Referee: Harold Baker. By his victory over King (154¾) the Australian version of the title returned to Smith (158), the referee’s decision being fully warranted. Once again the contest was of extreme cleverness reported the Sydney Telegraph, but this time round Smith made sure of winning when dropping King in the third round with a solid left hook and keeping his rival busy thereafter. By dint of clever left-hand work, King was never really outclassed, and in the 16th and 17th sessions he came back strongly before being badly hurt in the following round and going on the defensive through to the final bell.
