1915-01-23 (160lbs) Jeff Smith w rtd 5 (20) Les Darcy, Baker’s Stadium, Sydney, Australia. Referee: Harold Baker. Defending the Australian version of the title, Smith (160) took on Darcy (155), a 19-year-old youngster who was seen as a good bet to become a world champion in the near future. For the opening four rounds it had not been much of a contest and halfway through the fifth Darcy complained to the referee that he had been struck low but was made to continue. At the end of the session Darcy returned to his corner and after dropping his shorts to show the crowd his dented protector he was retired by his seconds.
