1915-02-09 Freddie Welsh nd-drew 10 Joe Shugrue, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WORLD. Referee: Billy Roche. After both men had made 135lbs at the 3pm weigh-in as per the articles of agreement, it was Shugrue (135) who did most of the forcing without ever being able to land a telling punch and it became a boring, uninteresting contest. Having scaled 135½lbs at the ringside weigh-in, in the main Welsh (135) was content to defend and when he did occasionally open up he seemed more concerned in preserving his hands. Next time out, Welsh took on Jimmy Anderson (nd-w pts 6 on 15 February at The Coliseum, Grand Rapids, Michigan) in a short-distance contest, in which the outsider was allowed to make 135lbs.
