1915-02-09 Freddie Welsh nd-drew 10 Joe Shugrue, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WORLD. Referee: Billy Roche. After both men were inside 135lbs at the 3pm weigh-in, as per the articles of agreement, their ringside weights showed Welsh to be 135½lbs to Shugrue's 135. Although Shugrue did most of the forcing, without ever being able to land a telling punch it became a boring, uninteresting contest. In the main Welsh (135) was content to defend and when he did occasionally open up he seemed more concerned in preserving his hands.

Next time out Welsh took on Jimmy Anderson (nd-w pts 6 at The Coliseum, Grand Rapids, Michigan on 15 February) in a short-distance contest, in which the outsider was allowed to make 135lbs.
