1915-02-20 Jack Dillon nd-w pts 10 Frank Mantell, Federal AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - USA. Referee: William McPartland. With both men inside 175lbs Dillon’s title claim was at stake in what turned out to be a poor fight with very little action involved. For the first two rounds the combatants clinched non-stop with the referee using all of his strength to break them apart. Coming to life in the third, Dillon (173) slammed in several left hooks to the body that had Mantell (171) hanging on before going back into his shell. Although Dillon tried hard to put Mantell out in the seventh and ninth it was to no avail, the fight drawing to an end almost as it had started. Throughout the action, or lack of it, with Dillon appearing to be holding back it came as no surprise when it was learnt that he had suffered an injury to his right arm in the third.
