1915-06-01 (142lbs) [[Mike Glover]] w pts 12 [[Matt Wells]], Armory AA, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Patsy Haley. Although there was no mention of this one being a title fight in the ''Boston Daily Globe'', the ''Boston Post'' claimed afterwards that as both men were inside 142lbs at 3pm, Glover should now hold the Australian version of the title. Regardless, there was no doubt that Glover’s claim at the weight was considerably strengthened by his victory. Outreached by more than eight inches, Wells was forced to make all the running in order to get to close quarters and finished the contest with his right eye closed as well as suffering plenty of further facial damage. The opening few rounds were fairly even as both men looked for openings, but after the fourth Glover, using a solid left jab mixed with uppercuts to head and body, surged to the front and stayed there. However hard Wells tried he just could not gain the advantage and despite a powerful rally in the 12th, when he threw caution to the wind, he had to settle for a points defeat.
