4 June (118lbs) Kid Williams nd-w pts 10 Jimmy Murray, Palace Theatre, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. With both men inside 118lbs, Williams risked his title claim at that weight against Murray, but while clearly winning the press decision he failed to land the soporific punch that had been expected of him. True, he had won hands down, hitting Murray with every punch in the book and having him groggy on a number of occasions, but when the latter was finally knocked down the bell came to his rescue in the ninth round. Murray, who had taken enough heavy punches to fell any man, was still in a daze in the tenth but somehow managed to get to the final bell on unsteady legs.
