1915-07-05 (158/160lbs) Jack Dillon drew 10 George Chip, Association Park, Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Referee: Walter Bates. Made at 158lbs, the Kansas City Star reported that with both men inside the limit, Dillon risked his title claim at the weight. Having to make the weight by 3pm weakened both men and the first six rounds saw little action. This was the tenth meeting between the pair and first one man looked to get his punches off and then the other, with little between them. After having a good ninth round Chip was looking to build on that in the tenth, but Dillon had other ideas and his rushing tactics forced Chip on to the back foot where he had to use all of his experience to extract himself from a difficult situation.
A few days later, on 12 July at Brown’s Gym, Queens, NYC, New York, an over-the-weight Dillon scored a ten-round press win over Johnny Howard, who weighed in at 160lbs. In the aftermath, there was no doubt that Dillon was finding it increasingly hard to make 158/160lbs anymore and from thereon he campaigned as a light heavy.
