1915-08-02 (142lbs) Harry Stone nd-w pts 10 Johnny Marto, Olympic AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Showing all of the skill that made him a leading welterweight title claimant, Stone (136) was far too good for Marto (138), who was reduced to rushing in with big swings that scarcely ever landed cleanly. Blocking, sidestepping and taking the blows on his arms and shoulders, the New York Herald reported that it was only when on the attack that Stone lacked effectiveness, producing very little power in his blows. With weights unavailable, it is unclear whether Stone’s contest against Jimmy Capper (nd-w pts 10 on 21 August at the Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC) involved his title claim.
