1915-09-11 (154lbs) Mike Gibbons nd-w pts 10 Packey McFarland, Brighton Beach Motordome, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Reported in the New York Times as a 154lbs title fight, McFarland, who had been out of the ring for almost two years, scaled 152lbs to Gibbons’ 153. Witnessed by over 30,000 fans, Gibbons got off to a flier and it was only in the eighth round that McFarland got into the fight as the ‘St Paul Phantom’ tired. Gibbons left eye had been cut in the seventh and it was then that McFarland made a run for home, but despite shading things he was well down on the press cards and did not have the power to end matters.
