1915-09-11 (154lbs) Mike Gibbons nd-w pts 10 Packey McFarland, Brighton Beach Motordome, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Reported in the New York Times as a 154lbs title fight, McFarland, who had been out of the ring for almost two years, scaled 152lbs to Gibbons’ 153. Witnessed by over 30,000 fans, after Gibbons got off to a flier it was only in the eighth round that McFarland came into the fight as the ‘St Paul Phantom’ tired. Gibbons' left eye had been cut in the seventh, but despite shading things from there on in, McFarland, lacking the power to end matters, was well down on the press cards.
