1915-11-08 (116lbs) Johnny Ertle nd-w pts 10 Abe Friedman, Clermont Rink, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. With both men inside 116lbs, Ertle (114¾) put his newly-won title claim at the weight up for grabs against Friedman (114½), proving superior in virtually every department. Forcing the pace and using both hands to dish out punishment, Ertle almost had Friedman over on several occasions, but the latter’s fine footwork and blocking skills got him through.

Prior to the contest the NYSAC declined to recognise Ertle as being the world champion, but stated that if any promoter wished to advertise him as such they would not stand in his way.
