1915-12-27 (160lbs) Les Darcy w rtd 8 (20) Eddie McGoorty, Baker’s Stadium, Sydney, Australia. Defending the Australian version of the world 160lbs title, Darcy (159¼) gave the challenger no respite from the opening bell and it soon became clear that barring accidents he was on his way to another win over his rival. Forced to take risks, in the fifth round McGoorty (159¾) was dropped by a terrific uppercut to the face before getting up at ‘nine’ and holding on for all his worth until the bell came his rescue. Although he came back strongly in the next two sessions, McGoorty was unable to deter Darcy, who seemed to be impervious to any amount of heavy punches coming his way, and in the eighth a right uppercut to the body had the American over again. Despite McGoorty beating the count he was finished and after staggering around the ring to no purpose his corner wisely threw the towel in.
