1916-01-17 (142lbs) Ted Kid Lewis nd-w pts 10 Kid Graves, The Auditorium, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. With both men inside 142lbs at 3pm their title claims were on the line, but although Lewis (140½) had Graves (142) beaten from the second round onwards according to press reports, he was unable to find a finishing punch. Despite Graves occasionally worrying Lewis with the odd blow he was consistently battered against the ropes and it seemed a certainty that he would be eliminated from the title race before eventually making it to the final bell. There was no doubt that Graves’ title claim was greatly diminished after this contest, but he continued to style himself as the 145lbs champion.
