21 January (116lbs) Johnny Ertle nd-w pts 10 Jack Sayles, Harlem SC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Again Ertle (115) risked his 116lbs title claim in a no-decision fight, this time against Sayles (113¾), who had he possessed some power might well have won. Although Ertle had been laid up with tonsillitis he forced the fight from the opening bell, but found the speed and footwork of his opponent baffling at times and had to settle for the ‘newspaper’ decision.
