1916-01-28 Jack Dillon nd-l pts 10 Billy Miske, Grand Opera House, Superior, Wisconsin, USA - USA. Referee: Harry Stout. Billed for the 175lbs championship, the Superior Telegram reported that both men weighed in at 170lbs and that the contest was fiercely fought. Although Dillon, relying on body blows, was the more aggressive of the pair, Miske proved a tough nut to crack and he caught the champion time and again with straight punches from both hands. In summing up, the general feeling was that Miske had won by two rounds to Dillon’s one, with the remainder even.
When Dillon fought Vic Hansen at the Phoenix AC, Memphis, Tennessee on 14 February, despite it being a mere eight-round no-decision affair the Memphis Daily Appeal reported it to be an advertised championship fight with the ringside weigh-in set at 170lbs. Whether or not either man was inside 175lbs barely mattered after the contest went the distance and Dillon was awarded the press verdict.
