1916-04-25 Jack Dillon w pts 15 Battling Levinsky, Convention Hall, Kansas City, Missouri, USA - USA. Referee: Ed Smith. Meeting for the sixth time, it was a hard, fast fight with Dillon (168) showing much speed and Levinsky (174) doing his best work at distance. There was no doubt that Dillon packed the heavier blows, Levinsky being in some distress on a number of occasions, and at the final bell he was handed the verdict. The general feeling was that Dillon had won six rounds to Levinsky’s four, with five even. Afterwards, the Chicago Tribune reported: “if there was any question as to where the light-heavyweight title should be it was settled tonight”. On 12 September, Dillon met his old rival, Levinsky, over eight rounds at the Phoenix AC Arena, Memphis, Tennessee and according to the Memphis Daily Appeal both men weighed in less than 175lbs. Reported as a press draw, although it was of limited duration there was obviously a risk attached to Dillon’s claim if the men actually were inside the stipulated weight.
