1916-05-24 (145lbs) Ted Kid Lewis nd-w rsc 13 (15) Eddie Moha, Gymnastic Club, Dayton, Ohio, USA. In his first contest since taking over Kid Graves’ 145lbs title claim, Moha made a reasonable start when flooring Lewis in the second round, but the latter came back strongly with fast, clever work to outclass his rival in every facet of the game. After Lewis had put Moha down with a hard left to the jaw in the 13th, the referee stopped the fight when it was clear that the latter could not continue.
Although Lewis derailed Moha’s title plans in this one, he did not claim the title as he considered Jack Britton to be the champion. The same principle applied when he beat Mike Glover on points over 12 rounds at the Armory AA, Boston, Massachusetts on 13 June 1916, despite the Boston Evening Globe stating on the day of the fight that the match had a championship flavour about it as the winner would be claiming the title. It was an easy win for Lewis as he outspeeded Glover throughout and had his rival down from a left hook in the final session to earn himself another crack at Britton.
Having retired from the ring immediately after the fight, Glover passed away on 11 July 1917 following a short illness.
