17 June (116lbs) [[Johnny Ertle]] nd-w pts 12 [[Johnny Ritchie]], [[Keokuk AC, Federal League Park, St Louis, Missouri]], USA. Referee: [[Harry Sharpe]]. Made at 116lbs, Ertle maintained his grip at the weight when holding Ritchie off, and he had to be at his best to do so as the latter most certainly came to win, attacking throughout. Ritchie never stopped working despite being battered at times by uppercuts, hooks, body shots and straight punches, and was always right in front of Ertle. While the 116lbs title claimant received the press verdict from those at ringside it was a tough night for him and one he would not want to repeat too often. There were no knockdowns, just plenty of hard hitting.
