1916-11-21 (145lbs) Jack Britton w pts 12 Charley White, Armory AA, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. According to the Boston Post, the Articles of Agreement called for the two men to be inside 142lbs at 3pm on the day of the fight despite Britton winning the title from Lewis at 145lbs. Having ignored the weight stipulation Britton (144½) handed White (136½) what was termed as an artistic whipping as he outboxed the hard-hitting Chicago man for round after round. There were no knockdowns, but how both men tried. Although White fought one of the gamest uphill battles seen in a Boston ring, Britton, despite having four lower teeth chipped by a cracking left hook, was his master and the decision was a formality. On 4 December, Britton (147) lost a ten-round press decision to the 144lbs Steve Latzo at the Majestic Theatre, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Had Latzo won inside the distance he would have had an excellent claim to the 145lbs title.
