1917-01-09 (118lbs) Pete Herman w pts 20 Kid Williams, Louisiana Auditorium, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Referee: Billy Rocap. With both men inside 118lbs at the ringside weigh-in, Williams got away well in this billed championship fight before he was dropped by a tremendous body blow in the fifth round and saved by the bell. Although the title claimant got back into the fight he was again decked when a barrage of punches to the head sent him down in the 12th. It was fairly even from there on, the referee announcing afterwards that he had given Herman nine rounds to Williams’ eight with three even.
