1919-07-04 (118lbs) Pete Herman nd-drew 10 Dick Griffin, The Coliseum, Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Reported in some record books as being held in Fort Wayne, Indiana and since discovered to have taken place in Fort Worth, this was a successful defence for Herman at 118lbs. Many earlier records had shown Herman fighting Joe Burman in Benton Harbor on this date, but it was another Herman - Pekin Kid Herman - who was fighting Burman in Michigan on the same day. Carrying the fight to the champion, Griffin, apart from being rocked by a succession of hooks to the jaw in the sixth, did well enough to be given a draw by the pressmen.

On 6 August, Herman met Bernie Hahn (nd-l pts 10 at the Auditorium Armory, Atlanta, Georgia). Advertised as a championship fight, unfortunately there were no weights or related information reported in the Atlanta Constitution to support the statement.
