1919-08-11 (158lbs) Mike O'Dowd nd-w pts 10 Jackie Clark, The Arena, Syracuse, New York, USA. At the 6pm weigh-in, both men were inside the required 158lbs, thus placing O’Dowd’s title claim on the line. Boxing superbly well, especially when moving in and out with the jab in the third and fourth rounds, Clark gave O’Dowd much to think about for the first half of the contest, but once the latter got close up it was a different story. That was where O’Dowd excelled and having taken a shellacking in the eighth Clark thought it more prudent from thereon to use his skill to evade punches rather than risk exposing his chin when trying to win inside the distance.

O’Dowd (155) immediately followed this up when taking an eight-round no-decision match at the 1st Regiment Armory, Newark, New Jersey on 22 August against the welterweight champion, Jack Britton (146), and being given the press verdict.
