1920-03-30 (160lbs) [[Mike O'Dowd]] w co 5 (12) [[Joe Egan]], Mechanics Building, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Hector McInnes. According to the ''Boston Post'' and ''Boston Globe'' this was a billed title fight at 160lbs. Despite Egan getting himself into tip-top shape for the champion, it was soon clear that he had no chance of landing the title, being belted around the ring with little response. When he did fight back he occasionally hurt O’Dowd and a straight right opened up a cut on the latter’s left eye. By the fourth round, however, Egan was blowing badly, having taken some heavy blows to the midsection, and in the fifth a right to the jaw bowled him over for the full count. Although Egan had given of his best he was not in the champion’s class.
