1920-07-01 (158lbs) Johnny Wilson nd-w pts 12 Soldier Bartfield, Sportsman’s Club, The Armory, Newark, New Jersey, USA. In making his first title defence at 158lbs, the Boston Post reported that Wilson (157¼) had a huge pull in the weights against Bartfield (149½) and certainly made it work to his advantage when bulling the latter about. Using a southpaw left to the body as his best form of attack, Wilson was too strong for Bartfield, who won three rounds at most, and although the challenger came forward in the final session he was unable to find a winning punch. Both men took punishment to the body, but when Bartfield, who normally excelled on the inside, tried to tie his man up he was generally shaken off and belted heavily.
