1921-11-18 Johnny Dundee w disq 5 (15) George KO Chaney, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NY. Referee: William McPartland. Promoted by Tex Rickard and recognised as the first championship fight at the weight, Dundee (128¼) was clearly the better man and proceeded to outbox the compactly built, hard-punching Baltimore southpaw from long range. Unable to get into the contest and becoming wild, Chaney (130) was warned three times for low blows, once in the first and twice in the third, before being disqualified at 1.07 of the fifth round after repeated transgressions.
It was reported in various newspapers on 29 January 1922 that the NBA, holding their first ever convention, in New Orleans, Louisiana, would be recognising Dundee as the champion of the weight class forthwith.
