1922-08-14 Dave Rosenberg w pts 15 Phil Krug, The Velodrome, Bronx, NYC, New York, USA - NY. Referee: Kid McPartland. Krug (155), a replacement for Harry Greb who had pulled out after being matched against Rosenberg (160), showed amazing courage to last the distance in his battle for the New York version of the title that had been vacated following the Commission’s decision to strip Johnny Wilson. Rosenberg won every round, although Krug, cut over the right eye in the sixth, somehow remaining upright despite reeling around the ring and being on the verge of a kayo throughout. Right from the opening bell it was apparent that Krug had no defence against Rosenberg’s non-stop, all-action style, but for bravery alone he had no peers on the night. The unanimous decision in Rosenberg’s favour was a formality.
