1923-04-13 Pinkey Mitchell nd-w pts 10 Harvey Thorpe, The Auditorium, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - WISCONSIN. Although Mitchell’s crown was up for grabs, at no stage did Thorpe (140) ever look like he was interested and the fight developed into farce as the latter rushed to cover at every opportunity, using all manner of ‘wrestling’ holds you could think of in order keep out of trouble. A veteran of more than 300 ring battles, from the moment Thorpe tasted Mitchell’s right hand it was all about survival and although he occasionally attempted to take the fight to Mitchell (140) he was soon back in defensive mode and the press verdict was a formality.
