1926-07-06 Fidel LaBarba w pts 10 Georgie Rivers, Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - NBA/CALIFORNIA. Referee: Duke Kenworthy. After knocking LaBarba (111¾) down in the first round with a right to the jaw, Rivers (110¾) gave the American champion a tough argument all the way, despite being put down himself on three occasions, in the second, third and ninth sessions. In front of 7,500 fans, the referee had no hesitation in raising LaBarba’s hand at the final bell after he had forced the fight, working well to the body, while Rivers, who probably won three rounds, had held his own in the clinches. Following this and two further successful defences of the European title for Elky Clark, he and LaBarba were finally matched to unify the title.
