1926-09-21 Mushy Callahan w pts 10 Pinkey Mitchell, Vernon Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA - CALIFORNIA. Referee: Duke Kenworthy. Making his first defence outside of a no-decision contest, as much as Mitchell (140) tried he was outbattled, outboxed and outsmarted by a tough challenger, whose main aim was to batter his rival from his championship with strong right-arm punches. Trained to the minute, Callahan (140) showed a good defence, rarely wasted a punch, had Mitchell down in the eighth from a left-right to the jaw, and was well worth the referee’s decision.
