1927-05-31 Mushy Callahan w pts 10 Spug Meyers, Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois, USA - ILLINOIS/CALIFORNIA. Referee: Jim Gardner. Successfully defending his title by a unanimous decision, Callahan (139½) was the master at long range, sending in good, solid lefts to the body and rights to the jaw in every round, while Meyers (137½), badly cut over the left eye in the third, had the better of it when at close quarters. The challenger had a good fifth round, shared the next three and tore in for the last two sessions with long left and right swings, but was unable to turn it his way.
