1927-06-24 Bud Taylor w pts 10 Tony Canzoneri, Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois, USA - NBA. Referee: Joe Choynski. A return match, yet again it was a vicious encounter with no holds barred and both men fighting toe to toe, but this time all three judges were able to find the same winner when a verdict was called for. In a fight of two differing halves, Canzoneri (117½) made all of the running over the first five rounds, leading with the left and crossing the right, while Taylor (117½) concentrated on trying to get inside. However, the second-half of the contest saw the challenger tiring fast as Taylor came on strong with a relentless finish to pick up the spoils.

Taylor never made a further defence, and following a ten-round non-title points defeat at the hands of Santiago Zorrilla on 27 July 1928 at the Dreamland Auditorium, San Francisco, California, he relinquished the NBA version of the title 26 days later due to increasing weight problems.
