1927-08-30 Jimmy Slattery w pts 10 Maxie Rosenbloom, The Velodrome, Hartford, Connecticut, USA - NBA. Referee: Young McAuliffe. Having beaten Rosenbloom (168½) twice previously, Slattery (169½) made it a hat trick of wins when he was awarded the referee’s decision in a contest to decide the NBA version of the title after Jack Delaney moved up in weight. In a battle of wits and contrasting styles, both boys showed clever ring craft and ultimately it was Slattery’s speed and accurate hitting that caught the referee’s eye, rather than the open-gloved efforts of Rosenbloom. There were no knockdowns.
