1928-05-24 Tod Morgan w pts 15 Eddie Martin, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NY/CALIFORNIA/PENNSYLVANIA. Referee: Lou Magnolia. Carrying the fight to the champion from the opening bell, Martin (130) made life extremely difficult for Morgan (129¾) as he never stopped boring in, despite being cut on the left eye, and was always looking to get big punches off. Morgan (129¾), who soon realised that he would not be able to outfight his rival, concentrated on the jab-and-cross routine as well as putting in heavy right uppercuts when at close quarters. Although it certainly looked close at the final bell, all three judges had no qualms over who had won when handing out a unanimous decision in Morgan’s favour.
