1928-08-31 Izzy Schwartz w co 8 (15) Frisco Grande, Ocean View Arena, Long Branch, New Jersey, USA - NY. This one took place following the passing of the Altman Bill that permitted 15-round fights to a decision in New Jersey. Despite being contested outside of New York and in a State affiliated to the NBA, with both men announced as making 112lbs, it was recognised as a title defence for Schwartz (109) by the NYSAC. The New York Times reported that, sanctioned by Commissioner Bugbee, it flew in the face of the NBA. A rematch, Schwartz having beaten Grande (110½) by disqualification some six weeks earlier, it was much of the same with the little Filipino being outspeeded and outscored before being counted out in the eighth, having been down earlier in the round for a count of ‘six’.
