1930-02-18 Jack Kid Berg w rtd 10 (15) Mushy Callahan, Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London, England - NBA. Referee: Ted Broadribb. The title changed hands after Berg (137¼) forced Callahan (137¾) to retire in his corner at the end of the tenth round after the American had been saved by the bell in the ninth and suffered a broken nose as well as receiving cuts over both eyes. Right from the start Berg had shown his mastery, shooting in jabs and swinging and hooking with great speed, which forced the champion to defend throughout, while giving him no time to think. All in at the end of the ninth, Callahan made a supreme effort in the tenth, but after being subjected to a hail of blows from every angle it was time to call it a day.
A few days later the BBBoC invited the promoter, Jeff Dickson, to form a British promotional company, which he did with Ted Broadribb, while Berg decided to go back to America to defend his new title where the big money was.
