1930-09-18 Jack Kid Berg w pts 10 Joe Glick, Queensboro Stadium, Queens, NYC, New York, USA - NBA. Referee: Arthur Donovan. Made at 140lbs, this was another New York ‘defence’ for Berg, who had been confirmed as the NBA champion at their convention held a few days earlier, on 15 September. The NBA also ruled that if any champion defended titles in New York, California, Massachusetts or Pennsylvania after 1 January 1931 they would be barred from fighting in member States, but with Rhode Island and seven other States railing against the judgement it never came into being.
As ever, Berg (136) just got on with defending the title wherever the money was. Starting like a train he sailed into Glick (139) from the opening bell with a two-fisted attack, and although the latter met the champion’s rushes on even ground in the first round the American soon began to be overwhelmed by his old rival. Pushed back round after round, Glick often held on for dear life at times after being hit by an assortment of solid blows, but ultimately unable to cope with Berg’s stamina he went down on points.
