1930-10-10 [[Jack Kid Berg]] w pts 10 [[Billy Petrolle]], Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NBA. Referee: Arthur Donovan. Recognised by the NBA but not by the NYSAC, who once again failed to give the fight world title status, it was another defence at 140lbs for a champion more than happy to put his crown up for grabs against a dangerous rival in Petrolle (137). Petrolle made a good start, shaking Berg (135¼) up early in the first until the latter came storming back. Although Berg was pounded to the body in the second with wicked left hooks he kept pressing Petrolle, catching him with some cracking rights to the jaw in the third, before the challenger took the fourth with a punishing body attack. It was first one man then the other and Berg came on strong in the fifth after Petrolle had a point deducted for low blows. Despite Berg having a good sixth, Petrolle took the seventh with lusty body punches, but over the remaining three sessions the champion picked it up, while virtually ignoring the volume of punches coming his way. When the decision was announced in Berg’s favour it was not stated whether it was unanimous or otherwise, but for certain it had been a hard, gruelling affair.

1930-10-10 Jack Kid Berg w pts 10 Billy Petrolle, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NBA.

Although Berg was pounded to the body in the second with wicked left hooks he kept pressing Petrolle, catching him with some cracking rights to the jaw in the third before the challenger took the fourth with a punishing body attack. It was first one man then the other, Berg coming on strong in the fifth after Petrolle had a point deducted for low blows. Despite Berg having a good sixth Petrolle took the seventh with lusty body punches, but over the remaining three sessions the champion picked it up while virtually ignoring the volume of punches coming his way. When the decision was announced in Berg’s favour it was not stated whether it was unanimous or otherwise, but for certain it had been a hard, gruelling affair.
