1930-10-22 Maxie Rosenbloom w rsc 11 (15) Abie Bain, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WORLD. Referee: Lou Magnolia. Defending his title against the promising Bain (171½), the first round saw Rosenbloom (174½) reeling around the ring after being hit by a big left hook to the jaw, until grabbing hold of his rival and hanging on for dear life despite the referee’s efforts to break them. Having made it to the bell, Rosenbloom thereafter completely outboxed and outpunched Bain before the third man stepped in to rescue the latter who was bleeding from a deep cut, at 1.47 of the 11th.

On 28 April 1931, the NYSAC ordered Rosenbloom to defend his title against Billy Jones, Joe Banovic or Jimmy Slattery, who had placed their challenges on file, or face the consequences. Rosenbloom’s response was to outpoint Jones on 29 June 1931 at The Arena, Philadelphia and Banovic on 9 July at the Armory, Scranton in ten-round non-title bouts in Pennsylvania before signing up to meet Slattery in August. Earlier, on 6 June 1931, the NBA also issued a stern warning to Rosenbloom, stating that he must defend his title at least every six months.
