1933-01-13 Ben Jeby w rsc 12 (15) Frank Battaglia, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NY. Referee: Jack Britton. Having previously knocked out Jeby in a round Battaglia was obviously confident of lifting the New York version of the vacant title, but it did not quite work out that way. Taking all that Battaglia (159¼) could muster, Jeby (158¾) kept coming back for more and having dropped the former for ‘nine’ in the second round with a terrific, if somewhat controversial, body shot and then closing his rival’s right eye a round later, by the sixth he was clearly in front. A crude and plodding fighter, Jeby was not everyone’s cup of tea, but he was too good for Battaglia and after dropping him for ‘nine’ in the 11th with a right uppercut to the chin followed by a left hook to the body the referee halted the fight a round later on the 1.46 mark when the latter was ready to fall again.
