1933-05-01 Kid Chocolate w pts 10 Johnny Farr, The Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - PENN. Referee: Joe McGuigan. Using all of his astonishing speed and skill, although missing far too often, Chocolate (124) looked good for an early win over the chunky challenger, but could not keep the momentum going and ultimately had to settle for a points win. Farr (130), who was felled by a left to the jaw for ‘nine’ in the fourth, recovered well to get himself right back in the fight and looked as strong as an ox coming into the final round, despite having taken too many risks as he continually drove forward with both hands pumping out. However, desperate to put Chocolate over Farr left himself exposed and was dropped three times before going down on all three judges’ scorecards.
On 19 May 1933 at Madison Square Garden, NYC, New York, Chocolate outpointed Seaman Tommy Watson over 15 rounds in a featherweight title defence and, as in his contests against Lew Feldman and Fidel LaBarba, both men would have been inside 126lbs.
