1933-07-10 Ben Jeby w pts 15 Young Terry, Dreamland Park, Newark, New Jersey, USA - NY. Referee: Whitey Healey. Scorecard: 9-4. Advertised as being for the NYSAC version of the title, and given dispensation to go ahead on NBA territory under full championship conditions, the champion showed a good boxing brain when staging a smart fight from beginning to end to nullify the aggressive tactics of the two-fisted Terry (157). Meeting Terry’s attacks with left jabs and right uppercuts, Jeby (158¼) piled up the points during the first eight rounds, winning all but two of them, and conserving his energy he kept things on an even keel for the next five sessions before having to withstand a terrific assault over the last two. Realising he needed a kayo to win, and disregarding his cut and bleeding face, Terry tore into Jeby to attack the body with both hands. Despite Jeby being tired and worried for the first time, he met Terry’s charge like a veteran, well deserving the referee’s decision even if it did prove unpopular with the crowd.
