1933-07-11 Freddie Miller w rsc 4 (15) Abie Israel, Civic Ice Arena, Seattle, Washington, USA - NBA. Referee: Tommy McCarthy. Taking place in a State where boxing had only become legalised on 1 July, this fight left a bad taste in the mouth after Israel (125½) was put down from a Miller (125¾) body punch in round three claiming a foul. The challenger was given a three-minute rest after the referee had counted to ‘four’ on the grounds that although the foul was doubtful he would give the former the benefit of the doubt. Following that, the unfortunate Israel was put down twice in the fourth and rescued by the referee when it became apparent that he was being outclassed.
