26 August Lou Salica w pts 15 Sixto Escobar, Dyckman Oval, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA – NY/NBA. Referee: Arthur Donovan. Scorecards: 9-6, 10-5, 8-6. With Baltazar Sangchilli campaigning in Europe, New York joined hands with the NBA in deciding to recognise the winner of Salica (117¼) versus Escobar (117¼) as world champion, but following the unanimous decision many thought the wrong man had won, including Nat Fleischer, who gave eight rounds to the loser. However, it was an exciting contest and one that Salica fought an uphill battle to win. Although the Puerto Rican’s heavy punching at close quarter giving him the edge at the halfway stage, the new champion’s speed around the ring and good jab gained him the points.
