1935-10-23 Al McCoy w co 2 (12) Abie Bain, The Forum, Montreal, Canada - MONTREAL. Referee: Joe Glickman. Billed as a world title fight under the auspices of the Montreal Boxing Commission, McCoy (174¾) lost little time in finding his distance and larruped Bain (172¾) incessantly from the start before polishing his man off with a terrific short right hook to the jaw in the second. Bain, who never had a chance, was counted out on the 1.38 mark.

Just over a month later, after being outpointed over ten rounds by Jock McAvoy in a match made at 171lbs on 29 November at Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, McCoy moved up to heavyweight, while McAvoy went on to challenge the new world light heavyweight champion, John Henry Lewis.
