1935-10-23 Al McCoy w co 2 (12) Abe Bain, The Forum, Montreal, Canada - MONTREAL. Referee: Joe Glickman. Billed as a world title fight under the auspices of the Montreal Boxing Commission, McCoy (174¾) lost little time in finding his distance and larruped Bain (172¾) incessantly from the start before polishing his man off with a terrific short right hook to the jaw in the second. Bain, who never had a chance, was counted out on the 1.38 mark. Just over a month later, after being outpointed over ten rounds by Jock McAvoy in a match made at 171lbs on 29 November at Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, McCoy moved up to heavyweight, while McAvoy went on to challenge the new world light-heavyweight champion, John Henry Lewis.
