1936-01-06 Valentin Angelmann w rtd 5 (15) Kid David, Sports Palace, Paris, France - IBU. Billed for the vacant IBU version of the title, Angelmann (110¾) was always in control and in the third and fourth rounds he really stepped it up to pound David (110) from head to body. Coming out for the fifth in a daze, David was immediately hit with a volley of punches to head and body before being dropped from a hard right to the jaw midway through the session. Up at ‘seven’ and in a bad way, and after taking two more heavy blows, David, who had relinquished the European title in December 1935 saying he could no longer make the weight, retired himself.

Although Angelmann remained relatively active throughout the year, the IBU did not, it would appear, ask him to defend his newly won title until he challenged Ernst Weiss for the European title on 12 December.
