1936-09-03 [[Mike Belloise]] w co 9 (15) [[Dave Crowley]], Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - NY/GB. Referee: Arthur Donovan. Prior to the finish at 2.51 of the ninth round it had been a bitterly fought contest, with Belloise (124½), who was defending his title for the first time since the belt had been awarded to him by the NYSAC, just about having the better of it. Crowley (126) was always dangerous, but after being put down in the eighth and rescued by the bell at the count of ‘four’ he found himself in desperate straits. Coming out for the ninth Crowley was soon under the hammer, and after being downed by a terrific right to the stomach he was counted out in the act of rising. Although the Englishman, who had earlier drawn over ten rounds with Belloise on 26 May at catchweights, cried foul, on closer examination of the punch that knocked him out it was felt that it had landed just above the waistline, thus being deemed to be fair.
